Not to send her more clothes..
Well! John Harper has made a magnificent trunk for her clothes, hats, shoes and accessories. She can even sit on it and pose.
It has been a true labour of love. Made of American Redwood Oak the wood has been recycled from an especially sourced antique gentlemen’s wardrobe. Johns skill as a skilled organ cabinet maker of over 50 years has guaranteed the finest dovetail joints in both the main trunk and internal shelf. You can see some of John organ work in the cathedras os Canterbury, Salisbury, Coventry and many others.
In Greyfriars Krk in Edinburgh John included a carving of Greyfriars Bobby within the organ casing, with the comic monk looking down at him. Some of you may recognise it if you have visited Edinburgh.
So Marjorie will come with a magnificent trunk as well as clothes. How happy Marjorie, who died from TB, aged 11 in 1915, would be to know how loved and cherished is her doll over 100 years later. And how pleased her brother would be that he saved the doll from their bombed out home after the Bristol blitz in WW2.
Every doll has its story. Big thanks to John and our club dressmakers who are still adding to Marjorie’s.
