The AGM will take place in the morning
The Faith Eaton Cup (formerly the Terrot Cup) and the Florence King Memorial Plate entries will be judged during the afternoon. The Coleman Award for contributions through writing to further our knowledge, will be presented.
The Faith Eaton Cup is awarded for handmade clothes, sewn by a member of the club, and the Florence King Memorial Plate (formerly known as the Commemoration Award) is for a knitted or crocheted outfit for a doll of any size. For both the competitions it is the clothing that will be judged and not the doll. The clothing need not be displayed on the doll. Please bring your entries to the AGM.
SHARED LUNCH.
This year we will have a shared lunch and will be hosting Denis Pellerin, curator of the stereoscopes collection of Brian May (of the band Queen). A list of foods you can bring will be circulated in February.
There will be raffle, sales and charity tables.
We are running our very successful ‘big sale’ again at the AGM. If you have one or several items you would like to sell, there will be a number of tables for you to use. 10% of sale to a total of £50 will go to club funds. No selling or buying will take place until the AGM is complete.

Dolls in Boxes with Donelle Denerey
This programme examines dolls in their original packaging material and liberally interprets this to include dolls with their wardrobe trunks. A diverse collection of dolls and accessories spanning the timeframe of a Rohmer French Fashion to Kamkins cloth dolls are examined. Many of the dolls shown will also feature their wardrobes.

Paper Conservation with Emily O’Reilly
What does a Paper Conservator do?
Emily O’Reilly: ACR, F11C will answer this question and more, taking a look at objects she has worked on in her career. From archives in Australia to priceless works of art on paper, from portrait photographs to a pair of unusual Victorian paper window curtains. Emily is happy to take a look at anything you would like to bring along for an assessment and opinion.

Plus a talk on “Early Alabaster Tea Tables and Table Ware,” with Carol talking about the types and sources of alabaster, the various examples of these very rare objects, where they can be found, and some theories about how, where, and when they were made.
There will be a sales table, a charity table.

Doll club outing to Queen Mary’s Dolls House, Windsor Palace
Join us on a private tour to see Queen Marys Dolls House, Windsor on Monday 9th September. This promises to be a wonderful DCGB day out with a self-guided tour of Windsor Castle, followed by a private talk and viewing of the Dolls’ House itself without the crowds.
Tickets will initially be offered to members only. If tickets are still available after 30th June we can open the trip to spouses and friends who have previously added their names to a waiting list.

Queen Mary’s Dolls’ House: A Collectors view with Stella Brooker
Stella’s talk will briefly cover the history of the dolls house for those who were unable to make it to Windsor. It will move on to souvenirs of the time and touch on a few modern examples. We will also look at other items to be found in the ether with connections to the house. Within this is a close look at some of the arts, library, ceramics and contents of the house.

Rebekah Kauffman, former archivist for Steiff. USA
The Great Paper Chase: Using Ephemera for Doll Research and Study.
Paper goods usually discarded after use – can be phenomenal research tools for doll study of any era. To demonstrate this, Rebekah will share examples of Steiff-related correspondence, catalogues, photos, and advertising from the early 20th century onward. She’ll then reveal the “ah-has” and nuggets tucked within their copy and images. Presented by Rebekah Kaufman, former archivist for Steiff USA. Show and Tell: Ephemera relevant to their own collecting interests? Also vintage Steiff dolls, animals, and bears.

Following feedback and the offer of an additional event plans for the 12th October have been adjusted somewhat. Frances will be in touch with members who had already confirmed earlier arrangements.
There will now be lunch rather than evening meal. Plus an additional visit to David Presland’s outstanding Tin Toy collection.

A History of The Company and Its Dolls
With: Dr Barbara Stone: Editor of Doll News and past president of UFDC
The year was 1866. A young man named Albert Schoenhut made his way from Germany to Philadelphia, USA. In 1911 he expanded the business to include superb unbreakable wooden dolls. This program explores the dolls made from 1911 through 1928, including the evolution of designs and technological innovations.

The Patience Doll presented by Andy and Becky Ourant
Andy and Becky Ourant are excited to present their program, “Patience, the Doll Who Raised Money for The Great Ormand Street Hospital”. She is an early Portrait Jumeau Bebe that was entered in a doll costuming competition dressed in a cap and gown from Girton College. She was purchased by a prominent London family who emigrated to America in the late 19th Century.
Their programme will start with a short history of the Great Ormand Street Hospital, then they will introduce some of the famous patrons who sponsored The Doll Show. They will also share some of the activities available during their two day show, and finally introduce Patience, and share their theory as to who costumed her and why, and finally tell us about her trip to America and the ups and downs she experienced for over 100 years before she came to live with us.

THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF WOODENS Carol Cameron.
The programme is in 3 parts.
The first part is the story of English Wooden dolls from the late 17th century to the early 19th century.
The second is about Continental Woodens from the late 18th century to the early 20th century.
The third and final part is Wooden dolls “From Other Times and Other places,” covering wooden dolls from ancient times to the first half of the 20th century, from Egypt, Italy, the Arctic Circle, the Middle East, Germany, England, France, Russia, the USA, and China.
As part of the “closing remarks,” a few comments are made about restoration vs conservation and modern wooden reproduction dolls.
As well as the commentary, there is lots of doll eye candy, so come along and enjoy!

This is an invitation to a private, members only, garden party to celebrate an amazing 70 years of the Doll Club of Great Britain at Olivia’s beautiful home in Ely.
There will be a simple lunch and a later tea to include scones, cream, butter and jam, cakes etc, which are being generously provided by our President, Olivia and Chairman, Terry.
The topic will be Fabric toys,
(sorry no teddy’s, they need a day to themselves). Bring cloth or fabric toys from Marguerite Steiff to Granny‘s loving fingers, home made or commercial.
There will be a sales table.

Early Dollshouse dolls of the 17th and 18th century presented by Susan Dossetter
There is very little known about the earliest dollhouse dolls, those of the 17th and 18th centuries. Through conjecture and comparison, we are able to learn some things about them, and of course, we can always admire them! In this talk, we will look at examples from England and Europe, made primarily of wood and of wax, and we will also look at the houses they lived in.

Did you know there is a dark and mischievous side of Christmas? Suzy will be warning us about Krampus and telling us how to stay safe from his clutches….
Show and Tell / Display: Rather than ‘Show and Tell’ we will have a Christmas Display. Bring ‘mischievous and well behaved Christmas dolls, fairies and items.
But Santa will be there to protect us. Optional: Bring a gift for his secret Santa sack. Value up to £10 and relevant only to dolls, dollshouses or toys.)
There will be a Christmas feast. *Contributing to the buffet. To avoid having 100 mince pies and nothing savoury there is a list of foods to contribute below. Please email [email protected] with your options of foods you can bring.
There will be Creative activities with a prize for the maker of the most creative Krampus.

12 noon owards. £5.00 entry towards food with any over towards club funds.
Suzy has kindly offered to open her gardens and pool on 27th August for a fun Circus Day with all things circus related. She will have her own Schoenhut circus on display. There will be Circus lanterns and possible acts from our youngsters. As well as swimming for those who like to swim.
Come dressed for the circus
Children, grandchildren and well behaved dogs are all welcome but parents must ensure they are safe around the pool.
For the Show and Tell…bring All things Circus.
Additional Junior Show and Tell. All young visitors are invited to bring their Dolls, toys and teddies to add to the Show and Tell table. Please do encourage them to come along and bring something. I’m sure we would all be interested to hear about what the young collectors of the future enjoy today.
Sandwiches and drinks will be provided but bring scones, puds and cookies for tea if you wish.
There will be an extra large sales table/tent as Suzy is down sizing her collection. Also the Raffle, Auction and Charity tables. Definitely a meeting not to miss.

Christmas Party
Relax in the comfort of your own home, enjoy a glass of bubbly or some mulled wine, and join your fellow DCGB members for a Zoom Christmas party. Although we can’t have a shared buffet, we can all enjoy our party food together.
The theme is “Christmas Tree Ornaments.” We would like members to send pictures of their favourite ornaments together with a written dialogue about them. If you do not have interesting Tre ornaments, then you could send a short description of your favourite Christmas decoration.
There will also be a presentation of homemade (by members) Christmas Tree Ornaments.
Val Ripley will be presenting one of her famous quizzes, and Santa will be making an appearance, along with his little helper. Who knows, we may even get a gift!

Relax in the comfort of your own home, enjoy a glass of bubbly or some mulled wine, and join your fellow DCGB members for a Zoom Christmas party. Although we can’t have a shared buffet, we can all enjoy our party food together.
Terry will be presenting a PowerPoint of Nativity sets from around the world, and members are encouraged to share theirs in the Show and Tell.
We will have a quiz, and a competition – there will be a template and instructions for this in the next issue of Plangon. The Christmas Star competition will be judged at the party. Members will be asked to show their decorated stars, and the voting will be done via the ‘chat’ on zoom.
Not sure what Santa will be doing, but lets see if we can get him to make an appearance….!
